National Nonprofit Petco Love Invests in Asheville Humane Society to Save and Improve the Lives of Pets in Buncombe County

Asheville, NC (September 19, 2025) – Asheville Humane Society (AHS) is set to receive a $15,000 grant investment from national nonprofit Petco Love in support of their lifesaving work for pets in Buncombe County.

Petco Love is a national nonprofit leading change for pets by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested nearly $425 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And Petco Love helps find loving homes for pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations — like ours — across North America, with more than 7 million pets adopted and counting.

“Our investment in AHS is part of more than $12 million in investments recently announced by Petco Love to power local organizations across the country as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only part of our strategy to empower animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us. We launched Petco Love Lost, a free national lost and found database that uses photo-matching technology to simplify the search for lost pets.”

“We are grateful to Petco Love for supporting us and for the incalculable impact they have in helping shelters save pets across the country. As we struggle with higher-than-normal numbers of pets in our care we depend upon the generosity of our neighbors in the region and the support of compassionate national nonprofit organizations like Petco Love to save lives and build a more humane community,” said Tracy Elliott, executive director of AHS.

For over 40 years, AHS has served as a lifeline for Buncombe County — facilitating countless pet adoptions, community assistance clinics, and life-saving surgeries — strengthening the entire community. In 2024 alone, AHS provided life-saving care to more than 14,800 pets and distributed over 165,000 pounds of pet food to households in need.
