Celia has helped immensely in the nearly 15 years (wow!) that she has been volunteering for AHS. She would shop for the little things, like brooms and staples, that help keep the shelter running but folks wouldn’t necessarily think to donate. She helped for many years with organizing volunteer orientation.
“Ever since I heard about the Humane Society, its been dear to my heart. It’s another home. I feel so comfortable here.”
Currently, she helps with some behind-the-scenes admin tasks that help keep our fundraising team running, like ensuring all of our donors get a customized thank you letter or creating hand-written thank you cards.
A former librarian for UNC Chapel Hill, Celia has an eye for detail that makes sure our mailing data is double-checked and all of our communication has that human touch.
“I care about how people think about the Humane Society,” she said. “I did get an award way back, I was Data Diva, which tickles me pink.”
If you want to help, we can find a volunteer opportunity that suits you! Celia’s tendonitis meant that she wouldn’t have enough grip for dog handling.
“They found a place for me. I appreciate being able to do this because its something I can do. They let me know that what I do makes a difference here. If I’m helping them do something, that helps them do something else that helps animals. That means a lot to me.”
