Asheville Humane Society to hold ribbon cutting for new hours

Asheville, NC (December 31, 2025) ─ Asheville Humane Society (AHS) will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony in partnership with the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce on January 6, 2026, at the AHS Adoption Center at 11 a.m. This event will celebrate the expansion of the Adoption Center’s schedule from five to seven days a week.

“The Board of Directors is so excited to see this expansion of adoption hours and to know how much it will help adopters find their next furry or feathered family member,” said Board Chair Dawn Marie Klug. “The leadership and staff at AHS have worked diligently to find the resources to make this expansion happen and are committed to serving the people and pets of Buncombe County. Please come out and join us for the celebration, and while you are here, learn more about how you can volunteer, adopt and donate to AHS.”

Previously open Tuesday through Saturday, the AHS Adoption Center will begin its new seven-day-a-week operation on January 4, 2026. This change aligns adoption hours with the seven-day intake of animals at the Buncombe County Animal Shelter. Operating hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

With this expansion, AHS will become the only animal rescue in Buncombe County open to the public every day of the week.

“We are dedicated to making thoughtful, strategic improvements that strengthen our long-term sustainability and enhance our ability to serve the animals and people of Buncombe County,” said Executive Director Tracy Elliott.

To prepare for the expanded schedule, AHS has repainted the dog housing area of the Adoption Center and bolstered staff.
