Asheville, NC (August 28, 2025) ─ Asheville Humane Society (AHS) is excited to announce a special three-day adoption event happening Friday through Sunday, Sept. 5–7, at the AHS Adoption Center. The weekend will feature dozens of wonderful pets waiting to find their new homes, along with unique opportunities for the community to get involved. As part of this event, AHS will also be welcoming adoptable dogs from ASPCA’s Behavioral Rehabilitation Center.
Summer is always a busy season for animal shelters, with adoptions slowing down while puppies and kittens from the spring reach adoption age. For weeks, AHS has been operating at full capacity, and this event is a timely chance to help animals transition into new families.
The adoption event will be held at the AHS Adoption Center, located at 14 Forever Friend Lane. In a special extension of hours, the center will also be open on Sunday, Sept. 7, giving the public extra opportunities to meet adoptable pets.
In addition, AHS is going to host adoptable animals from ASPCA’s Behavioral Rehabilitation Center (BRC). “We are excited to collaborate with Asheville Humane on this adoption event and find loving homes for our community’s adoptable pets,” said Sarah Fox, Senior Director of Operations, ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center. “The ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center in Weaverville focuses on giving canine victims a second chance through our specialized program and Asheville Humane is an invaluable partner in helping dogs in our local community.”
For community members not ready to adopt, there are still many ways to make a difference. AHS’s Foster Program is in need of families willing to provide temporary homes for animals that need time to heal, grow, or take a break from the shelter. All supplies are provided, and staff will be available at the event to answer questions and connect interested fosters with resources.
Volunteers will also play a big part in the weekend. Attendees can stop by the volunteer station to help create enrichment items for shelter animals, bag pet food, or even fold laundry. It’s a fun, hands-on way to make an immediate impact—and to learn more about becoming part of the AHS volunteer team.
This event is not just about adoptions—it’s a celebration of community, compassion, and second chances.
