The shelter will be closed Saturday, July 4th in observance of the 4th of July Holiday. Animal emergencies will be handled through respective Animal Control Agencies:

AHS is holding a baby shower the entire month of July for the shelter animals.

The summer months bring lots of homeless kittens and puppies to our shelter who need our special care. These babies need lots of supplies and you can help by picking up a few items while running your errands. Puppy under blanket

As a thank you for your donation, you will receive a baby shower party favor!

Item of the Month: Clay kitty litter!

Quick question: how many pounds of kitty litter do you think Asheville Humane Society uses each year? Okay, we aren't sure of the exact amount, but we do know that we need at least 16,000 pounds of kitty litter annually. Yep. That's a lot of litter. A lot. 8 tons to be exact.

So please consider picking up a bag of clay cat litter at any pet store or grocery store and bringing it to our administration offices located at 55 Shiloh Road, Suite 6. We can only use clay litter (not the super-fancy scoopable litter). Conduct a Kitty Litter Drive of your own! Get your neighbors, co-workers and friends to buy a couple bags as well. The cats and kittens thank you - a lot!

Walk for the Animals has been renamed --- Mutt Strut! Mark your calendars, Mutt Strut 2009 will be held at Carrier Park (on Amboy Rd), on October 10, 2009.
