She came to us with a set of curious wounds; one of which was several centimeters deep and worryingly close to her spine. As much as we hated to dim her majesty, we couldn’t treat the wound through all that fur. So the trimmers came out, much to our chagrin (and hers).
We only shaved what was necessary to assess, clean, and bandage the wound, which left her looking a bit like she was wearing a weird belt. Then came the absolute indignity of The Cone. Her already compact face was smooshed even further by all her fur filling the cone like a bouquet of flowers.
But she wore it like a queen. Despite everything she was going through, Freya’s sweet temperament and regal personality never wavered. Perhaps she knew we were acting in her best interest, but no one really knows what thoughts are behind those mystifying eyes.
Just as we were getting ready to say bittersweet goodbyes and send her home with her new family, a new wound opened up next to the healing one. It was back to square one, but her adopters knew good things are worth waiting for. It took a few more weeks of healing before Freya was finally ready to go home.
No matter where she is, Freya is queen of her palace, and her adopter’s home is no different. She confidently demands cuddles, plays fetch in the hallway, and even enjoys a supervised stroll through the castle gardens (the backyard) on her harness. And, her fur has grown back to its full, floofy regalia, flourishing with the love of her family.
“She is the sweetest girl with the biggest personality,” her adopters said. “She’s doing so wonderfully, we’re so grateful we were able to save her, and for her love and company.”
All our animals deserve to be treated with the dignity they inherently possess. Their unique personalities remind us how important it is to give each animal specialized, individual care. But we can’t do it without your help!
