Canine Adoption Counseling 101

Canine Adoption Counseling 101 will go over our adoption philosophy, the counseling process, and appropriate animal handling and etiquette for meeting with adopters. After this class, volunteers will be able to sign up for on-the-job shadowing with our dog Adoption Counselors. Adoption counseling is very hands-on and interactive with the public, so you must love people, too!

Adoption Processing 101

Our counselors need your help! Want to get more involved with adoptions and play a larger role on the front end? Do you enjoy working with the public? Then maybe adoption processing is for you! Join us for this hands-on training to learn how to process adoptions and see our animals through the final stages of reaching their forever homes! 

Affordable Pet Care Clinic Training

Join us to learn how to participate in our Affordable Pet Care Clinics! This class will provide the necessary skills and information to volunteer at AHS’ new and exciting monthly Affordable Pet Care Clinics. These clinics will provide essential wellness and preventative care to pets whose families might otherwise not be able to afford their care.

We'll need lots of volunteer help at these clinics to keep our community’s pets safe, healthy and thriving!

Feline Fundamentals Class

Get ready to be hands-on with our feline friends!  This class is required before current volunteers are able to interact with cats and kittens at the Adoption Center.  Prerequisites: completion of basic service requirements.

Canine Charm School

Help our rowdy dogs learn their manners in Canine Charm School!  This class is for volunteers who have been through Canine T.E.A.M. Training and are ready to help our dogs become more adoptable.  During this class, our Behavior Department will go over positive based techniques to use while volunteering with our high-energy or rowdy dogs.  In this class volunteers will work directly with a dog who will benefit from participating.

Feline Body Language Class

Learn all about what cats are telling us through non-verbal communication!  This class explores the various expressions of our feline friends and also shows how your body language can influence their reactions to you.  The material is great for your volunteer and foster work and for your interactions with any cats you may encounter every day!

Canine T.E.A.M. Training

Do you have an interest in learning about how dogs communicate?  Have you always wanted to learn how to effectively train a dog?  Do you have a desire to help our dogs cope with the Shelter Environment?  Great… because we need YOU!
As part of the Canine T.E.A.M. (training, enrichment, and more) Program, you will have a huge impact on the dogs in our care.
