Community Solutions Ambassador Class

If you are interested in learning more about how Asheville Humane Society helps animals and their people in our community, this is the class for you!  The Community Solutions Ambassador Class is designed to give volunteers the basic information needed to represent this important program to the general public both on our campus and out in the community.  Volunteers will learn basic guidelines and information about Community Solutions and what our outreach means to the community.

Wallflower Workshop

Join us as we teach our most timid canine residents that people are fun!  During the Wallflower Workshop, Canine T.E.A.M. members reinforce social behaviors in dogs who need that extra boost in confidence.  Think treats, treats, and more treats!

Participants must have attended Canine T.E.A.M. Training.

Weekly Wallflower Workshops are scheduled on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Thursday evening from 4:00 to 5:00pm each month (through the end of 2018).

Sign up for Wallflower Workshop through the Volunteer Information Center online!

Adoption Counseling 101

Adoption Counseling 101 will go over our adoption philosophy, the counseling process, and appropriate animal handling and etiquette for meeting with adopters. After this class, volunteers will be able to sign up for on-the-job shadowing with our Adoption Counselors. Adoption counseling is very hands-on and interactive with the public, so you must love people, too! This life-saving job is extremely rewarding, but also requires an open mind and an open heart, free of pre-judgements.

Adoption Processing 101

Our counselors need your help! Want to get more involved with adoptions and play a larger role on the front end? Do you enjoy working with the public? Then maybe adoption processing is for you! Join us for this hands-on training to learn how to process adoptions and see our animals through the final stages of reaching their forever homes!

Cat Enrichment Building Workshop

If you’re interested in learning how to build enrichment items for the cats at the shelter and in foster care, this is the workshop for you!  Our cat enrichment volunteer will guide the workshop, showing attendees how to create cardboard cat scratchers, box puzzles, and fleece catnip toys for the cats in the shelter and in foster care.  These items improve the lives of shelter cats by giving them enriching activities to occupy the time they’re spending in their kennels, which decreases the instances of illness and behavioral issues in shelter cats.

Taste of Compassion!

Asheville Humane Society's 15th annual Taste of Compassion Gala and Auction is coming up! Volunteers are instrumental in ensuring that this fundraiser is successful and we would love your help!  For more information about Taste of Compassion 2018, please see our event page HERE!
