It's the weekend! Need another reason to smile? How about eight reasons?! :) Four of these little Jack Russell/Beagle mix cuties will be available in Asheville Humane Society's Adoption Center on Saturday from 10am-6pm and the other four will be at our offsite adoption event from 11am-2pm at Diamond Brand Outdoors! Come get some puppy love! ❤️
It's hard to believe, but this adorable little guy named Roofio was found on the side of the road, abandoned in a travel crate with no food or water. Urine and waste had eaten away at the flooring of the crate. Roofio was covered in filth and had clearly been trapped in this tiny prison for quite some time. Thankfully, two good Samaritans found Roofio and immediately brought him to Asheville Humane Society for care. He was fed, received medical attention and given a warm bath. After a few weeks of recovery (and extra pampering from the staff!), Roofio was neutered and given a dental cleaning. We are so relieved that he was found and that we could help!
Roofio is a sweet, very calm dog who likes his stuffed animals and loves to cuddle with you! Roofio has enjoyed play groups with other small dogs in our Adoption Center. He is now ready for adoption! Will you show him what the good life is like with a family who loves him?
Remember this sweet boy?? Rumple first came to Asheville Humane Society as a tiny puppy, his back legs paralyzed. Thanks to acupuncture treatments, he regained his mobility and went on to live life like a normal, playful puppy! Now, Rumple is ready for adoption!!!!! If you are interested in meeting this mid-sized cutie, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. And if you want all the details, below is a note from Rumple himself ;)
"My foster mom says that I have a long story to be so young. When I got here I was paralyzed in my back legs. The staff at the shelter worked really hard to help me walk again. They did acupuncture and physical therapy with me and soon I was almost normal! My foster mom says that I will always have a funny little walk. She calls it my swagger. However, it doesn't slow me down. I love to play with the dogs and cats in my foster home and keep up with them.
"So after they got me walking again, I went to get neutered. After my surgery, I had a complication and wouldn't stop bleeding. Foster mom says that I am a hemophiliac. I guess that means that when I bleed, it takes a long time for it to stop. You should have seen how worried foster mom was when I lost my baby teeth. Foster mom and dad got really worried after they found that out. They started making me play less "ruff" and have less time outside and no bones to chew on. I got really sad because I just want to be a normal puppy and do normal puppy things, like chew on shoes and chase bugs outside. Finally one day foster mom noticed that I was sad and she told me, 'Alright you can be a puppy but try not to get hurt.' It's important to me that I get to be a normal puppy and experience all the things puppy-hood has to offer!
"So, foster mom told me to make sure to tell you all the things I like and don't like.
I love watermelon and ice cubes!
I'm not thrilled about car rides.
I love stuffed toys.
I am crate trained.
I am almost house broken.
I know how to sit.
I get along with the cats and dogs in my foster home.
"Well, that's enough about me... I can't wait to meet YOU!" :)

Why is Timber jumping for joy and smiling?? Because it's National Dog Day!!! Also, because of treats... ;) Timber was great with people and other dogs at our recent Yappy Hour event. And even at 11 years old, this Corgi mix proves that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks by sitting up on her hind legs for a goodie! Timber is great in the car, house-trained, crate-trained and loves to both relax and play. We hope Timber will find her new home in honor of this special day for celebrating the unconditional love of dogs!
Celebrate your dog(s) by posting a photo in the comments! #NationalDogDay
Tigger looks nearly as big as his new friend, Rylie! Even though he couldn't quite fit in her arms, Tigger still graciously posed for the camera with a smile ;) We think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship!
After a Candler home was raided in a cruelty/hoarding case, eleven dogs and two chickens are now in the care of Asheville Humane Society. As the animal services truck pulled up to our doors, our staff was waiting in the wings to help. Light drumming thuds could be heard from inside the truck... the sound of soft tail wags :) The dogs were all very sweet, but scared from the sudden turn of events in their lives. Carefully and gently, each frightened animal was lowered from the truck into loving arms. We coaxed the scared animals into the shelter to receive baths, food, medical treatment and warm beds. We are relieved that these animals will now receive the care they need, then find loving homes of their own! Cases like this remind us to reflect on the incredible support from our community. Volunteers, donors and Asheville Humane Society ambassadors like you help us save lives every day We couldn’t do it without you!!
The first rescued pup available for adoption is Sandy! This adorable girl is a 4-year-old Golden Retriever mix. Sandy loves to be by your side and will leap straight into your lap! We know she’ll make one lucky family very happy. Come meet her at 14 Forever Friend Lane!
Helen is one amazing little girl :) Despite being visually and hearing impaired, she is so trusting and has great curiosity about the world around her! A kind woman saw Helen in her neighborhood and started feeding her. She soon realized that Helen couldn't see... Worried that she was too vulnerable to be outside on her own, this good Samaritan brought Helen to Asheville Humane Society. Weighing just 6 pounds when she first arrived, Helen has been enjoying regular meals (and lots of yummy treats from us!) and is now up to 7.5 pounds!
You wouldn’t guess that this fearless, happy girl was lacking two of her senses. She explores the world without hesitation through her other senses: touch and smell. Like any cat, she likes to check out her environment before settling down. Helen looooves to be in your lap, enjoying head and chin scratches. She would do best in a home where her surroundings rarely change so she can easily find her way around. Helen will need to be indoor only where she will be safe. This very special girl is sure to warm your heart and your lap! Please help Helen find a loving home by sharing! Thank you, friends! :)

She also got along just fine with all of the other cats in her foster home. Meeowzer is friendly, calm, amuses herself and is just a pleasure to have around! She's quite petite, weighing just under 5 pounds. Meeowzer also has excellent litter box habits. She's very ready to settle into a forever home and have someone to love!

They grow up so fast!! This adorable puppy, Judah, was born in our care two days after his stray mom was found and brought to Asheville Humane Society... just in time! After several weeks in foster care with his mom and siblings, Judah was adopted in May. His proud new dad, Miguel, brought him by for a visit to show us how much Judah has grown! Now four months old, he has matured into quite the handsome young pup :) We love seeing our alumni stop by with their happy new families!
