Safety Net Happy Tail
Jackson reached out to Asheville Humane Society because he feared that he may have to surrender his beloved dog, Shazta. She was diagnosed with a critical mast cell tumor on her side that required surgery ASAP. Thanks to a generous ASPCA Pet Retention Fund Grant, we were able to provide Jackson with a voucher to use toward veterinary expenses and asked him to contact our Safety Net Helpline if he needed additional assistance.
Two days later, Jackson contacted us again to say that he had set up a GoFundMe page because he was still unable to pay for the surgery. Jackson was very candid on his GoFundMe page about how he needed to “swallow his pride” and ask for donations because he would “swallow a bullet to save his best friend.” He was racing against the clock and couldn’t raise the full amount he needed. Fortunately, we were able to provide an additional voucher that covered the remaining balance. Jackson struggled not to cry as he gratefully accepted the gift. Shazta fully recovered from her surgery and remains by the side of her loving person!
