Re-homing Courtesy Listing

Life can take surprising and difficult turns for all of us. Loss of a job, having to move, allergies, divorce, and even death sometimes result in a wonderful pet needing a new home. For those families or individuals with no other options than to re-home a pet, we are here to help by offering this courtesy listing of animals seeking new families. The pets featured below are not Asheville Humane Society animals and require direct communication with their existing owner. This listing is a courtesy for those seeking to re-home and animal lovers looking to find a new pet. All animals have been spayed/neutered and are current with their Rabies vaccination.

For more specific questions regarding this free re-homing service, please contact our Safety Net Coordinator, Megan Collins, at mcollins@ashevillehumane.org or call the Buncombe County Animal Shelter at (828) 250-6430 Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Pepper

Pepper, a 2.5 year old Boxer mix, is a very sweet and affectionate dog. Her favorite things are playing with other dogs, laying on the couch and being around children. Pepper is great at alerting you to strangers but will warm up quickly once she sees they are welcome by you.  She is house broken but loves time outside also.  She would be the perfect pet for an active family! If you are interested in Pepper, please contact Robin at 828-319-1897.

Mary

If you are looking for an older, laid back companion, I’m your girl! My name is Mary and I am a 14 year old, beautiful, brown tabby cat. Even though I am a little older, I can still play with other cats and I am very healthy. I like to be inside and outside; mostly wherever you are. Unfortunately, my family is moving into a small apartment and cannot take me with them. Won’t you let me take up a small space on your couch? Please contact Jessica at 828-230-8043 or jesse1james@hotmail.com.

 Remi

My name is Remi and I am a 65lb. female, Pointer mix. All my shots are up-to-date and I have been spayed. I like to be around kids and other animals, as long as they are nice to me. I am shy at first, but have no problems warming up to new people.  I know a few tricks...sit, lay, ‘shake’, ‘say please’, and roll over (don’t be surprised if I “argue” at rolling over, though…especially on hard surfaces…I prefer carpet or grass). I am completely house trained and crate trained.. I would be a good “alert” dog, but not a very good “guard” dog…I will bark, but don’t expect me to bite!

My ‘mommy’ works a lot as a police officer, and I am often left alone in my crate for long hours. ‘Mom’ says I need a home where I will get the attention I deserve. Plus, her schedule is going to get worse, soon…and there is no one to help care for me when she is gone.

I am a really sweet girl. I like to be outside, sniffing the ground, and cuddling with my people (preferably in the human bed). I also like squeaky toys, tennis balls, and going for rides in the car. If you would like to learn more about me or set up a visit, please contact Barbi at 828-772-0984 or barbara.cole@buncombecounty.org.

Tigger

Everyone loves an orange tabby cat! Tigger is a spunky, outgoing, affectionate cat who is good with other pets. She likes to come and go inside and outside but if you are looking for a strictly inside cat he is litter box trained. We are moving to a small apartment and, as much as we love him, can no longer keep him. If you would like to learn more about Tigger, please contact Jessica at 828-230-8043 or jesse1james@hotmail.com.

 Soba

My name is Soba and my new family nicknamed me Soba Noodle. I used to live next door. Apparently, I have been to lots of homes. The guy next door took me in from his mom who took me in from someone else. I just didn't really have any family to call my own. I was left out in all sorts of bad weather and tied up on a lead. I get really scared when I am left out and I never want to be tied up again. I am okay on a leash because I know that means we are going for a walk and that is FUN! I am a little anxious. I didn't like getting yelled at so much over there and I don't know what I did to make my dad just move and leave me at the neighbor’s house. I have a good home here and I love my mommy and she loves me but see she has a lot of other dogs and cats. I am ok with them except I kind of like to bark and nip at the other dogs because I need to be tough and strong so nobody bothers me anymore. I am housetrained and I love running and playing. I can't just be left out by myself because I will jump a fence and go for a run but usually I will just stand at the door and cry because I really just want to be with you. I want a family or a person who will love me and let me sit on the couch and relax with them. I love being petted and I love kids as long as they are nice to me. I am good with cats but I would prefer to be the only dog. I hope to find a home where I will get hugs, kisses, walks and lots of cuddle time. I am pretty low maintenance as long as I can chill in the room you’re in; I will be calm and happy. I am a very good girl. That is what I have been told. Would you like to meet me and talk to my mom about me? If so, please contact Bri at 828-279-2308.

Gracie

Gracie is a 9 year old Beagle/Hound mix looking for a new, loving home. She is a wonderful log who loves to run and play with other animals. She is great with children and can still keep up with them! She is still a puppy at heart. She will be the first to alert you to anyone coming near the door but doesn’t bark much other than to protect her home. Our circumstances have changed and we can no longer keep Gracie. If you are interested, please contact Jessica at 828-230-8043 or jesse1james@hotmail.com.

  Sheila

Sheila is a 3 year old Keeshond mix who was found as a stray, in a park, a few years ago. Her owner is moving and cannot take Sheila. She is a very special dog who only has 3 working legs but that doesn’t keep her down! Sheila would do best in a calm, female, household. She loves to sit on the couch and lay her head in your lap. Sheila LOVES cats and is good with other dogs. She is not good off leash so she must be leash walked or go to a home with a fenced yard. For more information about Sheila, please email Carol Pothier at carolannpothier@yahoo.com.

  Smokey

Hello! My name is Smokey and I am a big ball of soft, black fur with BIG GREEN EYES. I am spoiled rotten, my mom made sure of that. I was found in a shed when I was a tiny little thing, weighing only 1.5 pounds. I take lots of “cat naps” but enjoy waking up for a chin rub. My favorite activities include napping, sunbathing, laying on your lap and a little more napping. Did I mention I love to nap? I am good with other cats and have a few close cat friends who I play with. Children don’t bother me, I keep to myself around them mostly. I am looking for a new loving home! My family is moving across country and cannot take me with them. If you would like to meet me, please contact Michelle at 828-484-9583,828-713-9087 or myshell32506@gmail.com.

 JimBob

Hi! My name is JimBob and I am a 3 year old Terrier/Retriever mix. I am a fun-loving, energetic pup who is wonderful with children, cats and other dogs. My buddy Nikkita is also looking for a new home. I am protective over my family. I won’t bite but if I don’t know you I will bark. I am an inside dog who has been spoiled and love to sleep on the bed with my family but I have to be covered up with a blanket, otherwise I won’t be able to sleep. I only go outside to use the bathroom so I am completely housetrained. I enjoy being outside but my family keeps me in most of the time since we live so close to the road. My family is moving across country and I cannot go with them. Would you let me be a part of your family? If you would like to meet me contact Michelle at myshell32506@gmail.com, 828-484-9583 or 828-713-9087.

Lola

Lola is a 10 year old Lab mix, about 60 lbs, who is very smart and loves attention. She enjoys going on car rides and having her belly rubbed. Lola can be timid around new people but she is great with other dogs. She is a good watchdog and alerts you when someone at the door. She will be a wonderful pet for someone who will take the time to acclimate her to a new home. Lola would thrive in an adult home with an owner who has experience with dogs. For more information on Lola, please contact Natalie at 828-273-0269 or nvw777@gmail.com.

  Nikkita

Meet Nikkita! She is a Terrier/Shepherd mix and about 5 years old. Nikkita was abandoned at Toys R’ Us when she was small and we picked her up and took her home. She is a sweet girl who will do just about anything for some cuddle time. She gets just about anything she wants when she looks at us with big brown puppy dog eyes. She is wonderful with children, cats and other dogs! Our cats tend to want to cuddle with her and she tolerates it very well. She has a buddy named JimBob who is also looking for a new place to call home. She is completely house trained and enjoys being outside. We love Nikkita but are moving across country and cannot take her with us. If you are interested in Nikkita, please contact Michelle at 828-484-9583 or myshell32506@gmail.com.

Sake

Sake is a quiet guy until he wants some affection, then he meows with a Siamese-like insistence until you pet him and pet him. His favorite game is to be a “Pretty Kitty,” and get up on the bathroom sink with you. There you will take out a makeup brush reserved just for Sake, and brush his pretty face and head with it. Then you will pet him and he will shed, gloriously. But never fear, because Sake also loves his baths. He tolerates having his long nails trimmed well, He is a little shy, but does not hide. He dislikes loud noises. If someone is approaching the house, if a package is being delivered, if you have any unusual sound at all, Sake is the first to hear it and to alert you. He loves to play, but is definitely an introvert. He loves to sit and look out the window for hours at a time, and he loves to choose a favorite sleeping spot, usually your bed. He is a fine, fastidious feline, and a definite creature of habit. To learn more about Sake, please contact Sara at 828-707-2966 or unanimous72@gmail.com.

 Ginger

Ginger is a 4 year old German Shepherd/Husky mix (~65 lbs). She is very well mannered, smart, and desires to please. Ginger is obedient, does not bark unless tethered for long hours, and is quick to rest her head on your lap. She is house trained, does not need to be crated, and obeys multiple commands (for example, she is trained to go to her bed whenever her family sits to eat). Ginger is a sweet friend to children and adults. She will play with every dog she meets when free, but she does show aggression to dogs she does not know when on a leash. She is strong and high energy and needs space to run. She is an escape artist and does not come when outdoors. Ginger is looking for a family that knows how to work with dogs and has space to run. If you are interested, please contact Dawn at 919-819-1163.

Razzy

Razzy, a rare Calico male, is a great lover of people and of life, and he is always in a good mood. He loves to sit in your lap and be stroked, and told he is a big, beautiful boy, which he knows. The easiest way to Razzy’s heart is through his stomach and he will do just about anything for you once he hears the sound of a treat bag open. He will get underfoot in the kitchen, anticipating being fed at all times, even though he knows when meal times are, and is the eternal optimist, thinking today might just be the day you give him all of the food, all at once!! He loves to sleep on his back, especially when it's warm, with his belly in the air. He purrs loudly, and loves to meet every new person who comes to the door. He likes men, women, and children, alike, and he just loves other cats. However, Razzy is not at all a fan of dogs, and if he even hears on on TV, he will growl, and look around. He is on a special food to prevent URI’s. To meet Razzy, please contact Sara at 828-707-2966 or unanimous72@gmail.com.
