Asheville Humane Society
 Adoption & Education Center

Asheville Humane Society raised private donations to design and build the Adoption and Education Center, which is immediately adjacent to the Buncombe County Animal Shelter, to easily source adoptable animals for re-homing. Oftentimes animals matriculating through the Buncombe County Animal Shelter have some type of medical issue, injury or behavior concern which prohibits their adoption. Asheville Humane Society raises private donations to provide the medical care necessary to make these animals adoptable so they can be re-homed. Asheville Humane Society focuses exclusively on saving lives of homeless animals from Buncombe County and only sources animals from the Buncombe County Animal Shelter. Asheville Humane Society receives no federal, regional or local government funding to operate the Adoption and Education Center.

Buncombe County
Animal Shelter

The Buncombe County Animal Shelter is operated by Asheville Humane Society in a public-private partnership. Buncombe County owns the facility but chooses to outsource the animal sheltering function to a private, nonprofit organization with demonstrated professional expertise and credibility so that stray and relinquished animals receive the highest standard of animal welfare industry care and compassion while residing at the shelter. Asheville Humane Society, with a mission of promoting the compassionate treatment of animals in our community through education, sheltering and adoption, has been operating the Buncombe County Animal Shelter since 1990.
