Urban Tails Outing

Take an adoptable dog out on the town!  Urban Tails is our newest volunteer program that pairs up active people and dogs for outdoor adventures.  Join in the fun on Wednesday evening, June 19, as we take our furry friends to Carrier Park for some exercise and fresh air!  If you are interested in joining this program, please e-mail volunteer@ashevillehumane.org for an explanation of requirements and for more information.

It's show time!  Join us at Traditions Open Horse Show at the Etowah Showgrounds to watch the horse show, meet our adoptable dogs, and learn more about our horse and working cat programs at Asheville Humane Society.  Start time is 11 AM!  (No personal dogs, please)

Hiking Hounds

One of our most popular volunteer activities is our Hiking Hounds program!  Volunteers take shelter dogs on hikes as part of our enrichment programming.  If you love the great outdoors and dogs, this is the volunteer activity for you!  For more information about Hiking Hounds and for applications, please e-mail ahshikinghounds@yahoo.com. Reservations are required for each hike. 

Education Committee Meeting

Do you want to make a difference in the lives of animals through education and teaching?  If so, then consider signing up for the Volunteer Education Committee!  Committee members work towards the preparation of programs for youth at the Humane Society and at local schools, churches, Boy Scout and Girl Scout groups, homeschool groups, and more.  The committee also works towards the education of our volunteers and other special interest groups through classes and programs.  Join us in our efforts to inform the public about important programs like spay/neuter, animal care, animal cruelty, and much more!  If you are interested in signing up for this committee, please contact Heather at volunteer@ashevillehumane.org

A low-cost rabies and vaccination clinic will be offered at the Biltmore Square Mall (near the site of the old Garfield's restaurant).  Make sure your dogs and cats will find their way home if lost--microchips also available for a small fee!
