Tails & Trails 5K

Put your paws to the pavement and come join us for this unique fun run. Buncombe County Recreation Services will host the 8th Annual Tails & Trails 5K Adventure Run. The run starts at 9:30 a.m. and is open to adults, children and dogs of all ages. The run will take place on the Buncombe County Sports Park track in Candler. Register online by September 22nd to receive an event T-Shirt. Check in and late registration begins at 9:00 a.m. The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 4 12 plus 2 cans of Dog Food, which will be donated to Asheville Humane Society.

Pooch Essentials Class

Get ready to be hands-on with our canine friends!  This class is for volunteers who want to interact with dogs and puppies at the Adoption Center and at off-site events.  Prerequisites include attendance at a general volunteer orientation session and completion of Bed, Bath & Beyond requirements.  Sign up through the Volunteer Information Center or e-mail us with any questions at

Brews & Brains: Quiz for a Cause series brings you three nights over three months of team trivia challenges and local craft beer all to benefit three amazing local charities! Teams of 6 will enjoy multiple rounds of multimedia trivia challenges in hopes of winning some awesome prize packs. Hosted by The Millroom in downtown Asheville with Quiz Mistress, Emilie Travis.

'Spirit Animals' Mark Bettis Gallery Grand Opening

Local artist Mark Bettis will be launching his newest series Spirit Animals at a Grand Opening gala in his River Arts District Studio & Gallery.  The collection of oil/cold wax on wood panels consists of spirit animals, which is a belief of a spirit that guides, helps or protects individuals. Join us for this festive evening to view the new series along with works by Mark Bettis, Jacqui Fehl, Grant Penny and Constance Williams. Light hors d'oeuvres and 'spirits' will be served. Come dressed as a spirit if you wish! 10% of sales for day will be donated to the Asheville Humane Societyand Aloft Asheville Downtown  has agreed to match the donation!


Black Mountain Howl-O-Ween Pet Parade

Asheville Humane Society will be joining the community for the annual Howl-o-ween Pet Parade and Costume Contest in Black Mountain. Gather on Town Square.
