Feline Fundamentals Class

Fall In Love - PetSmart Adopt-a-thon

Saturday & Sunday, September 13 & 14, 2014

11 AM - 4 PM

Join Asheville Humane Society and other area rescue groups for this weekend long adopt-a-thon at the Asheville PetSmart on Bleachery Boulevard.  We will have lots of Dogs and Puppies looking for their forever homes!

Hard 2 Recycle Collection Event - East

11 AM - 3 PM

Asheville Humane Society will join Asheville Greenworks and other green groups to help divert recycleable and reusable items from our landfills. The East Buncombe location will be at the Madden Ace Hardware Parking Lot – 2319 U.S. 70, Swannanoa, NC. We will be collecting Animal Sanctuary items for reuse. Hiking Hounds

Kitty Caretaker Class

5:30-6:30 PM

Join the team responsible for the basic care of our Adoption Center cats and kittens!  Participants in this class will learn how to feed the cats, clean all the kitty areas, and other aspects of basic care.  At the end of the class, you will also learn fun ways to enrich the shelter experience for our feline friends, including teaching them tricks!  Prerequisites: Feline Fundamentals Class. 

Volunteer Orientation & Tour

6:30-8 PM

Take the first step towards becoming a volunteer for the largest lifesaving animal welfare agency in Western North Carolina!  Fill out an application online and plan to attend this session to get started.  The orientation will explain types of volunteer work, requirements, and the rewards of joining the team at Asheville Humane Society!  Following the orientation, attendees will be given a tour of our beautiful and functional Adoption Center.  We welcome junior volunteers ages 10 and up!  For more information, contact us at  Reservations required. 

Pack Memorial Library - Kids Craft Day for Animals

Pack Memorial Library will hold a kids craft hour to benefit Asheville Humane Society. Children in the community are invited to come and make dog and cat toys for he animals in our care. We will be bringing a pet for show and tell! For directions and more information click here

Ambassador Class

All of us love animals, but Asheville Humane Society also needs volunteers who love working with people!  The Ambassador Class is designed to give volunteers the basic information needed to represent us and our programs to the general public both at the Adoption Center and in the community.  Volunteers will learn how to help with the adoption process, basic guidelines and information about our numerous public programs, and all about our new DRIVE adoption initiative!  Attendance at this class opens up a variety of further opportunities for volunteers, including work as People Ambassadors at the Front Desk and at tabling events in the community, Canine Ambassadors who help our dogs find homes at offsite events and during onsite promotions, and Kitty Ambassadors who help match people to the cat or kitten they have been looking for at our offsite and onsite adoption events.  If you have any questions or want more information, e-mail

Urban Tails Guided Outing

Driver's Ed Group Dog Class

Do you enjoy working in a group environment with an instructor?  Then this is the class for you!  Volunteers work with our Adoption Center dogs on all of the basics and also on individualized needs with the help of our Behavior staff.  Prerequisites include Pooch Essentials and Basic Skills Dog Training Class.  Sign up online or e-mail with any questions.



Beemer's Dogs on the Deck Party

Dog Day Afternoon

Mix 96.5 presents the 3rd annual Dog Day Afternoon will take place again at Carrier Park. Activities include a dog-friendly fun run around Carrier Park, live music, dog contests including a Weiner Dog race, “Best Lap Dog over 50 lbs”, “Best Heinz 57/Mutt” and the “Fastest Dog in Asheville” competition. Local food vendors and local beer will be available for purchase. Part of the proceeds benefit Asheville Humane Society.


Low-Cost Vaccination Clinic
