Feline Fundamentals Class

Come meet your new hiking buddy at Diamond Brand Outdoors on Hendersonville Rd. We are bringing some of our rugged outdoor-ready dogs to meet you during Demo Day. While you tryout new gear from the shop you can also test drive an adoptable dog to join you on your adventures!

Learn all about what dogs and cats are telling us through non-verbal communication!  This class explores the various expressions of our canine and feline friends and also shows how your body language can influence their reactions to you.  The material is great for your volunteer work and for your interactions with your own animals or others every day!  Sign up through the Volunteer Information Center online or e-mail us at with any questions.

2nd Annual Doggie Dip

Mark you calendars and get your four-legged friends ready for the best darn pool party in town. Before the public pool is drained for the season, Asheville Humane Society and Asheville Parks & Recreation invite our local canines to get wet and wild at the 2nd Annual Doggie Dip dog swim event!

The Doggie Dip will be held at Recreation Park Pool, 65 Gashes Creek, on Saturday, September 12 from 12 noon – 5 pm. Dogs 35 pounds and under swim from 12 noon until 2 pm. Dogs from 36 pounds and over swim from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Cost is $5 per dog including one handler through September 11 and $10 per dog & handler the day of the event. Admission for spectators is only $1.

Paws for a Cause - Get Inked for the Animals!

Freaks & Geeks Tattoo Sideshow, will once again be donating 100% of the day’s proceeds to Asheville Humane Society during Paws for a Cause. This marks the 7th year the crew from Freaks & Geeks has dedicated a day of inking to raise money and awareness for Asheville Humane Society’s lifesaving programs. Five artists will be tattooing from a selection of four pet-related designs (see at right) priced at $40 each. Payment will be cash only.

Bring your four-legged friends and join us on The Ledge for a joint event to benefit Asheville Humane and the Asheville Art Museum at Aloft Downtown's WXYZ Bar. This event is a partnership honoring the Weimaraners featured in the exhibition William Wegman: Cubism and Other-isms exhibit on view August 22, 2015 – January 24, 2016 at the Asheville Art Museum. Your $5 donation will include complimentary appetizers. Aloft will be offering a signature cocktail of the evening and beer specials with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the two organizations.
