Donation Programs

We offer multiple donor programs for all animal lovers

We rescue, reunite, rehabilitate, and re-home more than 4,500 animals each year. We rely on donations from individuals, businesses, and foundations to save lives. There are several ways to contribute to our lifesaving efforts. 

Hungry Hearts

With thousands of mouths to feed each year, it costs almost $54,000 to feed the animals who need us. Being in any shelter can sometimes be confusing to a dog or cat, so keeping them healthy, mentally stimulated and weight-appropriate is a top priority while they are in our care. The animals need a nutritious, consistent diet and special needs animals require supplemental nutrition to booster their immune system. Biscuits, peanut butter-stuffed toys and chewies also make their time with us more enriching. Special Pets For Special People

Some animals need more than a second chance. Because Asheville Humane Society is able to re-home 100% of all healthy, adoptable animals from the Buncombe County Animal Shelter, we can now focus on saving those animals who require extra medical care, behavior modification, or socialization. Some of these animals will have lifelong special needs that require re-homing them into a special home willing to undertake certain challenges. These pets might require mobility assistance, extra medicines, or a home without children or other pets. They might be elderly, handicapped, or suffer from a chronic health condition. Some may simply be harder to rehome. Although these pets may take more time, attention, or care, we know they're worth it. Leadership Circle

If saving lives of homeless animals is a top priority for you, consider taking a lead in your own community by joining the Asheville Humane Society Leadership Circle - our major gifts program. By joining, members become part of an inner circle of donors who have a voice in how their donation is spent on the animals. Annually, members vote among three life-saving programs, chosen by Asheville Humane Society leadership, that are critical to placing healthy, adoptable animals. Each Leadership Circle member makes a tax-deductible gift of $1,200 per year with a minimum one year commitment (payment can be made lump sum or by monthly payment of $100). Members are also routinely invited to special parties and cultivation events, receive educational and behind the scenes invitations, and share their pride of giving with other like-minded animal loving members. Humane Hero Monthly Giving Program

Please become a Humane Hero by joining our monthly giving program! Monthly giving is an easy way to help Asheville Humane Society do even more to save lives and help animals all year long. Your contribution will be automatically charged to your credit card at the same time each month until you cancel. A minimum $25 monthly contribution is required for participation in this life-saving program. The animals thank you for being their hero!

The Lily-Grace Fund

The Lily-Grace Fund, established in 2008, enables us to provide life-saving medical care to injured or sick dogs and cats who arrive at the shelter; these animals would otherwise require euthanasia without the medical treatment necessary to rehabilitate them. Memorial Gift

Tribute Gifts

Rather than buying a gift, make a donation to the animals to acknowledge a beloved person, anniversary, birthday or any special occasion. The honoree will receive a letter acknowledging your kindness and you will feel good knowing you’ve helped homeless animals. Asheville Humane Society is fortunate to have the support of dedicated individual donors and volunteers. In addition, we depend on the generosity of local business sponsors, as well as regional and national business supporters, to fulfill our mission of caring for the homeless animals of Buncombe County and helping us place as many as possible for adoption.

Commemorative Bricks and Tiles

Bricks and Tiles Pay Tribute And Pave The Way To Saving Lives...Now and Fur-Ever

Is someone's birthday around the corner? Stumped by what gift to give to honor an anniversary? No matter the occasion, it's always a great time to contribute something personal and permanent to our Adoption and Education Center -- by purchasing a full-color tile with a pet's picture, or an engraved brick with a pet's or honoree’s name. And when you do, your love for the animals and your help in ensuring a future for the least fortunate of them will be written on our walls and walks, and in our hearts, NOW AND FUR-EVER.

Tile Information

Tiles imprinted with a beloved pet’s color photo and name are permanently installed on the interior walls of our Adoption and Education Center, and serve as an ever-lasting tribute to the love and bond between animals and owners in Buncombe County. Thousands of visitors each year see these furry faces decorating our walls.

Full color tiles are available in 2 sizes, 4x4-inch for $250 and 8x8-inch for $500. These tiles will be installed throughout the building for display to the public. Brick Information

Bricks can be inscribed in honor of, or in memory of, an animal or animal lover, or with just a donor’s name, and pave the exterior path to the front doors of our Adoption and Education Center.

Each 4”x8”x2¼” brick is engraved using state of the art laser technology, ensuring durability and resistance to the elements. Bricks can have up to two lines of wording and 15 characters per line (including spaces and punctuation). They are also available with a paw print logo. Engraving is limited to in memory / honor of (if desired), pet names, people names or business names. Bricks are $100 with an additional $20 for a paw print. Matching Gift

If you work for a company with a matching charitable gift program, you can double your gift to the animals. Be sure to include your matching gift form when you mail your donation to our administrative office - we'll submit the form for you. Car Donations

The animals need your car! If you own a vehicle and wish to donate it to a charity, please consider gifting your vehicle to help homeless animals! We've partnered with Vehicles for Charity, a nonprofit helping other nonprofits liquidate donated vehicles. Vehicles for Charity can make your donation a snap for Asheville Humane Society. They make the arrangements to assess and tow the vehicle, and will give a significant percentage of the net value of the vehicle to Asheville Humane Society as a cash donation. To get started, it's as simple as visiting their website, www.vehiclesforcharity.org, or calling them directly at 866.628.CARS (2277). Be sure to mention that your charity of choice for the donation is Asheville Humane Society!

School Groups and Youth Organizations

Gathering donations of food, toys and other needed items is a great activity for a school class, youth group or other organization. Contact Heather Brannan, Manager of Community Programs, for more information at volunteer@ashevillehumane.org.

Appreciated Securities

As you work with your estate planner, please consider including Asheville Humane Society in your will.
