Become a Volunteer

We rely on animal lovers just like you to help us with our lifesaving programs. Each year, hundreds of your neighbors donate their time and talent to help us help the animals and they get tremendous personal satisfaction from doing so. We encourage you to join us and become a lifesaving volunteer. Whether you're interested in helping with adoption counseling or socializing kitties, we'd love to have you as part of our Asheville Humane Society volunteer family. Our volunteers tell us they love being a part of our professional, organized volunteer program which outlines different opportunities and matches you with a volunteer opportunity based on your skills and interests. Our appreciative, friendly staff will provide you with all the training you require to succeed as an Asheville Humane Society volunteer. And the animals will provide you with unconditional love every step of your journey with us.

Joining our Volunteer team is easy.

Just follow these 2 easy steps:

(1) Click HERE* to complete your volunteer application.

(2) After you receive an acknowledgment that your application has been received, attend a volunteer orientation. Orientations are held twice every month on the first Saturday (11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and third Tuesday (6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.)

Junior Volunteers

Volunteers must be over 18 years of age to volunteer unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who also plans on becoming a volunteer. Together they must complete all of Asheville Humane Society volunteer orientations and training and the parent or guardian must commit to being with the minor whenever the minor is volunteering.
