Animal Care Level II
Asheville Humane Society is seeking a highly motivated individual with a passion for helping animals and citizens to work at the Buncombe County Animal Shelter location as an Animal Caretaker Level II. The position duties include, but are not limited to daily feeding, kennel cleaning, dishes/laundry, animal transportation, humane animal restraint, assisting with medical and behavior evaluations, as well as assisting the public with multiple animal related situations.
Work-related animal care experience preferred. Qualified candidates have excellent interpersonal skills, are highly organized and detail oriented and enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and are able to work well in challenging emotional settings. The ability to juggle multiple demands and work collaboratively is critical.
Ideal candidates will possess knowledge of safe animal handling techniques, common diseases of companion animals, basic disease control protocols and animal husbandry, basic breed identification and aging, vaccine administration and basic veterinary technician skills.
Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license and be able to obtain coverage under organization's insurance carrier. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds to a level of at least 4 feet high and have the ability to work continually in a high paced environment for a minimum of 8 hours daily, 5 days week minimum.
This entry level full-time position starts at $9 per hour and offers optional medical and dental benefits after an initial 90 day probationary period. Applicants must be willing and able to obtain various professional certifications in order to qualify for $10 per hour pay rate increase. Basic work schedule will be 5 days per week from 9am to approximately 6:30pm, but may vary. Candidates must be able to work weekends, holidays and on-call status. EEOC employer.
